Freshpet is recalling 4.5 pound bags of their Select Fresh From the Kitchen dog food at retailers in 12 states along with Puerto Rico due to possibility of salmonella contamination.
They are specifically recalling the "Home Cooked Chicken Recipe" variety that has a sell by date of October 29, 2022. The dog food might have been sold at Walmart locations in Alabama and Georgia as well as Target locations and other stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico. The recall is not only a warning for pets but also for their owners since they can handle the products that might be contaminated with salmonella.
So far, Freshpet has said that they haven't had any reports of "illness, injury, or adverse reaction" due to the possible contamination. Human symptoms of salmonella include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever and symptoms of dogs include diarrhea, fever, vomiting or signs or being lethargic.
