Weeks after the mystery collaboration was gossiped about, the K-pop stars and the “Rare” songstress confirmed the news in an announcement last night (August 11). “So SO excited to announce @BlackPinkOfficial and I have a new song coming out August 28th!” Gomez wrote with a promo banner for the song on Instagram, shouting out Blackpink bandmates Rose, Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo.
The collaboration, the name of which has yet been revealed, will premiere two Fridays from now, on August 28, at midnight EST.
The announcement has been a long time coming, as Selenators and Blackpink fans alike have been speculating a surprise collaboration for weeks. The first inkling came in late-July when the two acts were trending on Twitter at the same time after the girl group teased a mystery feature on the single.
The as-of-yet untitled track will appear on their debut LP, BLACKPINK: The Album, due out on October 2 via YG Entertainment/Interscope Records.
The Gomez team-up will have a lot to live up to following Blackpink’s groundbreaking comeback single “How You Like That,” which landed like a thunderclap back in June and broke myriad records in its wake.
In its first 24 hours, the visual for “How You Like That” became the most-viewed YouTube video, the most-viewed music video on YouTube, and the most-viewed music video on YouTube in 24 hours by a K-pop act.
