High schools in Northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley and even New York City are looking to use the Warwick Drive-in for graduation ceremonies. According to the Times-Herald Record, about 35 high schools have booked or considered using the theater, pending state approval.
Whether or not they can proceed depends on the Department of Education and restrictions on gatherings. Renting out the drive-in would reportedly cost $4,500 and operating at 50% capacity the theater can reportedly accommodate 155 cars at its first screen, 95 cars at screen two and 45 cars at screen three.
While graduation at the drive-in theater could go several ways, Warwick Valley High School is planning a hybrid of a "virtual graduation" and an in-person event. If given the go-ahead, they reportedly plan to use all three screens at the drive-in to play clips and photos and students can get out of their car to turn their tassels.
