Earth Day event promos "Doing Our Part for the Planet" What some of our member wineries are doing to stay green Utilization of natural resources and the effect of its operations on the environment

• Whitecliff is keeping 36 acres in active farming. We practice sustainable farming methods, using primarily organic sprays. Our wine processing is entirely vegan, we are rigorous in recycling our glass bottles and cardboard boxes, and pay the extra money for corn-based compostable plastics AND, our winery is the second ever geothermally powered built in New York State. I will try to send some pictures of that today.

• Some of the biggest changes we've been making at Applewood recently are our effort to reduce our use of single use plastics. We are no longer selling any beverages in plastic bottles, which includes canned water (many people have never even seen water in a can!). We are also moving towards compostable plastic cups and serving dishes at our bar and kitchen and making an effort to make sure these are properly sorted out in our recycling.

• Magnanini Winery Plants new vines annually and we use the grapes from our own vineyard to make wine and the skins are further processed/ used to make grappa and eventually returned to the field to create compost for more vines! We also recycle all of our glass wine bottles. • City Winery's wine on tap reduces thousands of tons of glass waste.

• Our Growler program allows guests to purchase wine on tap, and when they want to refill, they get a discount of $5 for returning with the bottle • Angry Orchard: In an effort to be eco-friendly, we use recycled rainwater collected through our pervious pavement driveway and retention ponds in all of our lavatory facilities, transitioned to from utilizing plastic in our kitchen to reusable and compostable containers, and more. For the month of June, we are partnering with One Tree Planted for our Benevolence Tap. For each draft sold from that tap, we will donate $1 to One Tree Planted, which turns into 1 tree being planted (ex. We donate $500 we plant 500 trees).
