Back in February, I had the opportunity to hang out with select students from all over the Hudson Valley. The students were named finalists for United Way's: Color My World United art contest, and joined me to talk about their pictures and to talk about their dreams.
Astarra Torres' painting included emoji's and a lot of love because as Torres said, "this world is about caring for people and treating others the way you want to be treated and helpful." An incredible outlook on the world from the eyes of a seven-year old at the time.
Through her smile and conversation I could not tell that Astarra suffered from severe asthma. Last week, Astarra unexpectedly transitioned at home surrounded by family.
Astarra, thank you for leaving an impact on me and for sharing your view of the world.
Below you can watch Astarra talking about her painting.
