The sports superstars I grew up watching are all retiring. Add Dale Earnhardt Jr to the list.
According to USA Today, Earnhardt will retire at the end of the 2017 season. Earnhardt has been racing since 1999 and won the Daytona 500 in 2004 and 2014.
Earnhardt is a third-generation driver following in the foot-steps of his Dad, Dale Earnhardt, and grandfather, Ralph.
In 2012 Jr. was ranked 7th on Forbes magazine list of "Most Influential Athletes," and named "the most famous auto racing driver in the world" by ESPN last May.
Arguably NASCAR's biggest star, Dale Jr. is walking away. Congrats Dale!!!
Press Conference at 3pm to give me the opportunity to discuss the retirement news. Incredible to see the support today. #FinishStrong💪🏼— Dale Earnhardt Jr. (@DaleJr) April 25, 2017
