(Albany, NY) -- New York is joining the growing number of states who want the presidential election to be decided by the national popular vote. Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation adding New York to the national popular vote compact. It allows New York to award its electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote once a majority of states sign on to the compact. The current system allows presidential candidates to ignore reliably Democrat or Republican states like New York and only campaign in select battleground states.
